Disability: Born with EZH 2 Overgrowth syndrome (Weaver Syndrome), first diagnosed in
2015 - failed operation on right knee to correct chronic patella dislocation in 2012 when she
was only 8 years old. The operation has damaged her nerves, muscles, growth plate and
patella in her right leg. She has patella displacement in both legs, tilting of her hip to the
right and scoliosis of the spine. She wears a back brace 20 hours of the day, walks with the
assistance of a walk-on flex on her right leg due to a drop foot and patella displacement. She
also wears a permanent knee brace on her left knee to prevent chronic dislocation of her
left patella. She also had operations on both hands in 2015 to correct comptodactyly of her
little fingers, which included removing nerves from her wrists.

IWAS World Games (2017) Vila Real St Antonio Portugal - gold medallist with a distance of
9.47m – participated under 18 while still under 14 (mixed classifications).
Currently the youngest ever to be ranked in the top 10 woman’s F 44 world rankings (all
ages) at number 5.

Other:

  • Only one of 10 women in South Africa to qualify for participation at the World
    Championships 2017, London – could not participate as she was not 14 at the time.
  • Holder of 2 South African Records for F 44 under 16 in 2016 and 2017.
  • She is one of only two athletes to be nominated by SASCOC to be a participant in the Junior
    World Championships, 2017 in Switzerland – could not participate as a result of passport
    issues.
  • Part of the ISAbility Sport Club team that represented South Africa to participate at the IWAS
    World Games, 2017 taking place from 30 November to 7 December in Portugal - Vila Real de
    Santo António.
  • A new brace for her right leg was customary made and designed for her by Johan Snyders
    from ICEXpress to protect and prevent further injuries to her right knee.
  • She was part of the Road to Tokyo show on SuperSport 10 that aired on 28 November 2017.

  • She is the holder of the Jonty Kotze trophy for the most inspirational pupil at Voorpos
    Primary in 2017.

Mandilené practises 6 days a week on the field with her coach and 4 times a week at the gym with
her Biokineticist to enhance her performance and to ensure that she will be able to partake at the
2019 Junior and Senior Para-athletic World Championships and the 2020 Paralympic Games.
She is a determined athlete and scholar.
